WEST UNION – Police say this young Northern Iowa man was drunk and turned into on-coming traffic, failed to yield and obliterated a lady’s Ford Explorer.

On October 5, 2025, at approximately 12:07 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received notification of a two-vehicle accident with property damage and injuries near the 10,000 block of Harding Road. Upon arrival deputies investigated and it was determined that Tammy Loomis age, 55 of Postville was traveling northbound on Harding in her 2015 Ford Explorer when she collided with a black 2014 Chevy Impala making a turn onto Harding and being operated by Tristen Moss age, 24 of West Union. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Union Police Department, West Union Fire, and Gundersen Ambulance.

The incident remained under investigation with charges pending.
On November 25, 2025, a Fayette county deputy arrested 24-year-old Tristan Ray Moss (pictured at top) of West Union on a Fayette County Warrant. The warrant was for two charges:
  • Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor)

  • Fail to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway (Simple Misdemeanor)

These charges stem, the sheriff’s office says, from a two-vehicle collision (see above photo) that occurred on October 5, 2025, on Highway 18 near the West Union Event Center.

Moss was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
