Clear Lake police nab suspect in elderly scam incident

CLEAR LAKE – This young male suspect allegedly scammed en elderly Ventura resident out of at least $1,000 and was nabbed hundreds of miles away and transported to face justice.

Atish Monish Hutchinson, age 21 out of New York, was nabbed in Clayton County, Georgia, on September 8, 2025, on a warrant out of Clear Lake. The Clear Lake police department filed a criminal complaint on Hutchinson back on July 11, 2025, after an alleged scam. According to Clear Lake Chief of Police Mike Colby, “An elderly resident of Ventura was scammed into sending the defendant cashiers checks for money under fraudulent circumstances.”

On July 14, 2025, a local judge issued an arrest warant for Hutchinson in response to the criminal complaint and charge of “Financial Exploitation of Older Individual Over $1000 Under $10,000 – 1st” a class D felony.

Hutchinson (pictured at top) was booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail on November 7 at 3:52 AM and he remains held there on $5,000 cash-only bond. He will face a preliminary hearing set for November 17.
