WASHINGTON, D.C. – Iowa’s top ag official is delighted with the developments out of the Far East, where President Donald Trump has delivered a soybean deal with China that will enrich America’s farmers and salvage the struggling rural economy in Iowa for years to come.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered an update on the important agricultural deal:

“President Trump is returning home from a historic trip to Asia that resulted in more peace deals, trade deals, and investments pouring into our country. The trip concluded with a highly productive and positive meeting with President Xi of China. President Trump fiercely advocated for America’s farmers, America’s businesses, American consumers, and every American impacted by the fentanyl crisis. And he delivered huge results. Gone are the days of having a President who apologizes for America. President Trump proudly stands up for America, and he always will.

Peace through Strength is back.”

Mike Naig

Iowa Ag Secretary Naig issued a statement on the Trump Administration’s trade announcement, which includes China’s commitment to purchase 12 million tons of U.S. soybeans this season and at least 25 million tons of soybeans per year for the next three years:

“This is great news for Iowa farmers and our ag economy. Expanded soybean purchases by China will make a meaningful impact at a time when many farmers are feeling the pain of a tough farm economy. It’s important that we continue to play offense on trade by opening and expanding new markets while also driving domestic use of Iowa products, especially homegrown biofuels.”

Meanwhile, Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer blasted the deal: “China has called Donald Trump’s bluff, and Donald Trump has folded … Americans, beware — Trump will spend the next few days trying to spin the so-called agreement as a win for America, but that is total bull… nothing real! All bunk!”

  1. 25 Million out of 118.84 million anticipated crop 25/25 season. I guess the farmers raising the other 100.84 million will have to wait.
