Northern Iowa man nabbed after victimizing schools

CEDAR FALLS – This Northern Iowa man and his underage sidekick are behind bars after cops say they vandalized and may have attempted to burn down property at several schools.

Cedar Falls Police arrested two subjects for multiple charges after an investigation was completed into the arsons and vandalisms at three area schools. On September 3, Cedar Falls Police took a report of vandalism that occurred at Cedar Ridge Christian School. The damage was to two outbuildings. During this initial investigation, it was learned that there was a wood pallet inside one of the buildings, which suspects tried to start on fire.

On the same date, officers were called to Holmes Junior High School for a report of damage to an electrical outlet and camera on the school’s exterior.

Additionally, officers were called to investigate evidence of a fire at one of the Hansen Elementary School’s playgrounds. Officers would learn that the suspects set fire to plastic perimeter fencing, causing significant damage to playground equipment.

On October 22, 2025, Cedar Falls Police arrested two subjects for multiple charges related to both incidents. Arrested in the cases were MALAKAI ADELMUND (20 years old) of Cedar Falls and a juvenile.

Both subjects were arrested on the following charges:

  • 1 count Arson 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)

  • 1 count Arson 3rd Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor)

  • 1 count Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (Class C Felony)

  • 3 counts Criminal Mischief 4th Degree (Serious Misdemeanor)

Both suspects remain jailed, awaiting court appearances.
