DALLAS COUNTY – A new, gleaming mosque opened to thousands in Iowa over the weekend, heralded as “a true marvel of Islamic architecture and design” and “donors and waqifs” were thanked for their contributions as sheriffs, police, fire, DOT, and emergency management personnel attended to make sure the event was a success.

According to the Dallas county, Iowa, sheriff’s department, their agency and many others helped the Es‑Selam Mosque open to worshippers on a sunny Saturday. The official grand opening of Es‑Selam Mosque, called “a true marvel of Islamic architecture and design” was held. The goal, according to the organiation’s website, is “to create a welcoming, inclusive, and spiritually nurturing space for the Bosnian Muslim community.

“This journey began in 2016,” they explain, “when our community united to envision and design the mosque and community center. Since then, through the generous support of our local congregation and extended family of donors and waqifs, every stage—from the foundation to the intricate interior calligraphy—has been realized with care and commitment.”

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, they celebrated the opening of this “historic project.”

“We are deeply grateful for the opportunities and support the United States has provided to our community following the Bosnian genocide, and we are committed to contributing positively to our adopted country,” the Muslims claimed.

The event appeared to be well-attended, as photos provided by the sheriff’s office (see at top) showed a vibrant crowd.

“We had a busy weekend helping with the opening celebrations at the Es-Selam Mosque,” the Dallas county sheriff said. “With more than 15,000 people attending, it was great to see such a large event come together smoothly—and we’re happy to report no major issues.

“A special shout-out to Chief Deputy Maxwell and Sgt. Bowers for their outstanding planning and leadership. Big thanks as well to our partners at at the Iowa DOT, Granger EMS and Fire, Granger Police Department, and the Dallas County Emergency Management for their teamwork in making this a safe and successful weekend!”
