David Peterson, 59 of Leland, IA passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at home after a year long battle with kidney and bone cancer.
A funeral service for David will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leland, IA, with Pastor Anthony Scalisi officiating. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
David Allen Peterson was born on October 20, 1965 in Forest City, IA, the son of Allen and Jean (Thompson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church. While in high school, he was involved in golf and FFA. He attended and graduated from Forest City High School.
He was married to Robin R. Blankenship on June 25, 1983 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland, IA. They were blessed with two children: Denny and Tracy.
David was a life-long farmer. He enjoyed working outside, he raised hogs, corn, and soybeans. David especially enjoyed working alongside his dad, Allen and later his son, Denny on the family farm. David enjoyed dogs, gun shows, hunting, trap shooting, corvettes, Harley Davidson’s, arrowhead hunting, shooting pool, watching old TV shows, and eating lutefisk with Allen, Denny, and Claire. David also loved growing and eating asparagus and raspberries on the farm.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Robin Peterson of Forest City; children, Denny Peterson of Forest City and Tracy (Travis) Jordan of Garner; grandchildren, Aiden Richardson of Clear Lake and Claire and Sophia Jordan of Garner; mother, Jean Peterson of Leland; sisters, Nancy (Bruce) Buffington of Forest City and Tammy Callahan of Forest City; in-laws, Leslie Grothe of Forest City and Todd (Jonie) Blankenship of Leland; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends; and who could forget his sweet dog, Ruby.
He is preceded in death by his father, Allen Peterson; father and mother in-law, Robert and Janice Blankenship; brother in-law, Monty Branstad; and nieces, Tera and Heather.
