DES MOINES – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds apparently has no issue with toxic chemical pipelines being installed anywhere big corporations please in our state, as she vetoed a bill passed by the Republican-dominated Legislature that would have solidified individual property rights.
Reynolds vetoed HF 639: A bill for an act relating to hazardous liquid pipelines, including common carrier requirements, proceedings under the Iowa Utilities Commission, including commission member attendance at hearings and informational meetings, including allowing certain persons to intervene in contested cases, and permit, permit renewal, and operation limitations, and including effective date and applicability provisions.
Gov. Reynolds released a statement after vetoing HF 639:
Iowa Democrats pounced on the Reynolds veto:
“It’s no surprise that Governor Reynolds has once again sided with her political donors rather than Iowa landowners. Iowa House Democrats and Republicans worked together to protect property rights. At the end of the day, there is only one group to blame for the failure of the eminent domain bill: Iowa Republican lawmakers.”
Locally, Mason City’s Republican Senator Doug Campbell (District 30), who fought for the bill Reynolds vetoed, said, :I am extremely disappointed with Governor Kim Reynolds in her decision to veto HF 639.”
