SCOTT COUNTY – An Elderly Iowa man tragically lost his life this week after he drove his Dodge van into a locomotive.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at approximately 08:57 am the Scott Emergency Communications Center received a call of a motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle and a railroad car, in the 2300 block of S. Cody Road in LeClaire, Iowa.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene, and an investigation was initiated.

The initial investigation found a 2021 Dodge Ram Promaster Van was traveling south on Canal Shore Dr. SW. A locomotive, hauling an unknown number of railcars, was traveling west at the same time and the Dodge van collided with the locomotive. There was a single occupant in the van at the time of the accident who was treated on scene by medical personnel.

The single occupant of the van has been identified as 84-year-old Kenneth L. Puck of Davenport, Iowa. He succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident, and was pronounced deceased on scene.

This accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Scott County Medic EMS, LeClaire Police Department, LeClaire Fire Department, Scott County GIS, and the Scott County Emergency Communication Center.
