A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation at Marble Rock United Methodist Church, 208 Iowa Street, Marble Rock Iowa. Burial will follow at the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock, IA. A luncheon will be served at the church after graveside services.

Maxine was born on September 11, 1928 to Jacob and Medora De Bok (Ahrens) on the south side of Chicago. She was educated at the Thorton Township High School in Harvey, IL, graduating in 1946. She went on to school at the American School of Beauty Culture and became an Illinois licensed beautician. She had her own beauty shop “Maxine’s Beauty Shop” in Dolton, Illinois.

Maxine met her husband Maynard “Mike” Ewald through her church at an event for service men beginning basic training at the Naval Station of Great Lakes. The couple was married on November 22, 1952 and celebrated 70 years of marriage together on their farm outside of Rockford, Iowa. To their union, two children, Michael and Cristal were born. Maxine was a beautician, wife, mother, farmer and friend. She enjoyed being on the farm, gardening, canning, baking, music, puppy dogs (esp. Moses) and believed in guardian angels watching over all of us.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Cristal; lifelong friend June Mohn of Texas (80+ years), and longtime friends of the family Cindy Wiedman of West Des Moines, IA and the Murray Family of Charles City IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Maynard “Mike”, son, Michael; parents and sister June Smaga.
