BURLINGTON, IOWA – An Iowa woman speeding through town, allegedly intoxicated with no insurance, lost control of her vehicle that was loaded with kids and crashed, police say, sending three of them to a hospital with serious injuries.
On March 12, 2025, at approximately 5:03 PM, officers from the Burlington, Iowa Police Department responded to the intersection of Columbia Street and 3rd Street regarding a single-vehicle accident involving a parked vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, they contacted the female driver of the vehicle and identified her as 30-year-old Hynephia Armstrong from Burlington, Iowa. Officers observed multiple children that were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The children were transported to the Southeast Iowa Medical Center where they were treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers conducted field sobriety tests and based off their investigation, they placed Armstrong (pictured at top) under arrest for OWI (Operating while Intoxicated).
Armstrong was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and booked on the following charges:
– 3 Counts of Child Endangerment – Serious Injury
– 1 Count of Child Endangerment – No Injury
– Operation While Intoxicated – first-offense
– Speeding
– Failure to Maintain Control
– No Proof of Valid Insurance
