Iowa counselor who exploited troubled children sent to prison

BOONE, IOWA - An Iowa man who worked as a counselor at a care facility for troubled children apparently did the unspeakable, and now will be looking over his shoulder behind bars for years to come.

BOONE, IOWA – An Iowa man who worked as a counselor at a care facility for troubled children apparently did the unspeakable, and now will be looking over his shoulder behind bars for years to come.

David Deshawn Maggette (pictured at top), age 42 of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced by the District Court in Boone county, Iowa, following guilty pleas to three counts of Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor/Therapist, all Class D Felonies, according to Iowa code 709.15.

The conduct is related to Maggette’s exploitation of juveniles at the Woodward Academy, a facility for troubled youths in Woodward, Iowa.

The Court sentenced Maggette to 15 years in prison along with requirements for 10 years on the Sex Offender Registry and a 10 year special parole.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.

Maggette is now in custody at the Iowa Medical & Classification Center before being re-assigned to a prison.
