Nathan Olson was born on September 15, 1988, to Kevin and Nancy (Button) Olson. From the young age of four, he developed a passion for wrestling, both as a participant and an avid fan. He was a graduate of Mason City High School.
He attended church at St. James Lutheran Church and had a strong faith that kept him going through the toughest times in his life. Despite being in a wheelchair for six years, Nathan kept a great sense of humor and was mentally and physically strong until the end. He was a lover of the outdoors, often would go on bike rides, fish, play frisbee golf, shoot hoops, and liked walking around Lime Creek. He also was a collector of book bags and a big supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Nathan had a mancave that he was proud of that had everything you could think of but his favorite thing was the pool table.
Family was at the heart of Nathan’s life. He especially loved being an uncle, a role that brought him immense joy, and he treasured the time spent with his loved ones. Nathan had a soft spot for his two cats and his hermit crabs who were maybe even more spoiled than his cats.
Those left to cherish memories of Nathan are his parents, Kevin and Nancy; sister, Nicole Olson; niece, Leah Olson; nephew, Nolen Ward; great friend and caretaker, Chris Ertz; close friend, Matt Bohl; his beloved feline companions, Smokey and Skylar; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Nathan is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Genevieve Olson; maternal grandparents, Merrill and Mary Button; uncle, Kent Olson; cousin, Jena Mills; as well as a few close friends.
Nathan’s family wants to give a special thanks to the nurses that have helped throughout the years especially St. Croix Hospice and in-home caregivers.
