Iowa woman found dead in suspected arson house fire

MARSHALLTOWN – Emergency responders raced to this Iowa house fire and found a woman deceased, with arson a suspected cause of the tragedy.

At approximately 1:00 PM on Monday. December 2, 2024, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 1404 South Center Street for a house fire. Upon arrival, a single-family split-level house was found with a fire in the living room area.

Following the extinguishment of the fire, an elderly female victim was found deceased in the immediate fire area. Fire department personnel then ensured the fire was sufficiently overhauled and then alerted Marshalltown police detectives and special agents from the Iowa Arson and Explosives Bureau.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.

Marshalltown police, Alliant Energy, and Unity Point EMS assisted at the scene.
