In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to go to the family to be donated to charities Mike loved, including the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA), Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF), and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Michael Denton Lockwood, 67, passed away on Thursday, November 28th, 2024, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease.
Michael was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on September 20,1957 to Merle and Norma (Bleckwenn) Lockwood. They moved to Swea City when he was two weeks old. He was baptized October 13th, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lone Rock, and confirmed on May 14th, 1972, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Swea City. He attended Swea City High School, graduating in 1976. In school, he was very active in sports and drama.
After high school, Mike attended Iowa Lakes Community College (Liberal Arts), Jackson Vocational & Technical College (Power Lineman Degree), and The University Wisconsin-Madison (Certified Liss Control Professional).
Mike worked for DEK (now Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative) for 33 1/2 years, beginning his career as a lineman before going back to school at Buena Vista University (Bachelor of Business Administration) to work as Engineering Services Coordinator. He retired in June of 2016.
Mike married Rhonda Coombes on July 14, 1984, and they made their home in Swea City. They have two daughters Malloree and Rachel.
He was active in his community, serving on the city council, and was the football voice of the North Kossuth Cougars. As a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Swea City, he held many different offices including serving on the Thrivent Board. Church was very important to Mike, which he passed on to his family. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings.
He is preceded in death by his parents Merle and Norma Lockwood, sister Jill Schauberger, parents-in-law William and Velma Coombes, and niece Brianna.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of over 40 years Rhonda, daughters Malloree and Rachel, beloved grandson Hunter, brother in-law Dr. Doug Schauberger, family friend Michael Waldren, and grandpups Sophie, Chloe, and Carneal.
