MASON CITY – A wanted Mason City woman on probation in a felony forgery case in which she dodged 15 years in prison was nabbed by cops, but didn’t go quietly.

Mason City police encountered 36-year-old Bethanee Ann Calvert at 2nd Street SW and Washington Avenue at 2:40 PM on November 22, 2024. Calvert was wanted on warrants in connection to criminal cases from her past. During their encounter with Calvert, she alleged resisted arrest as officers found a controlled substance in her possession.

As a result of th encounter, Calvert (pictured at top) was arrested on two warrants. She was also charged with simle misdemeanor interference with official acts and felony third offense possession of a controlled substance, a violation of Iowa code 124.401(5). This code specifies the possession as more than ten grams of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).

In January of 2022, Calvert entered a plea deal and was guilty of felony D forgery. The victim was a Mason City business, Liquor Tobacco and Grocery (formerly known as Northside Liquor) in the amount of $613.00.  A judge suspended her entire 15-year prison sentence, placed her in a residential facility for 6 months, and onto probation for 5 years, which she already violated once, court records show.

Calvert remains jailed on $5,000 cash-only bond as she awaits a probation revocation hearing set for December 3, 2024.
