LAKE MILLS – A child involved in a UTV accident at a pond in Lake Mills has tragically passed away.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a UTV accident took place at a private pond on August 31, 2024. At 5:30 PM that evening, a red 2018 Polaris Ranger operated by 11-year-old Mae Helgeson of Lake Mills was traveling near a pond when the driver side tires entered the pond bank, causing the UTV to roll onto its side. The driver was then pinned under the UTV. The Patrol says life-saving measures were performed and Mae Helgeson was transported to Mayo Hospital by Mercy Airmed.
Tragically, according to an obituary at Schott Funeral Home, Mae Isabelle Helgeson, age 11 of Lake Mills, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, from injuries sustained in the accident. They say Mae’s services will be private with family and close friends in attendance.
