OBIT: LeAlan “Lee” Bernard Schmidt

LeAlan "Lee" Bernard Schmidt, age 64, of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 10:30 a.m.-Noon at Fullerton Funeral Home.

LeAlan “Lee” Bernard Schmidt, age 64, of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa. Fullerton Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for LeAlan and his family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 10:30 a.m.-Noon at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City.

Lee was born on March 29, 1960 in Buffalo Center, IA to Bernard and Irene (Mayland) Schmidt. He was the youngest of four children and raised in Woden, IA. Lee graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake High School then graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College, where he earned a technical degree in carpentry.

Lee loved woodworking, gardening and playing golf. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. In his younger years, Lee owned a bar and grill called, “Lee’s Lounge” in Woden and was well known for his iconic tape measure races. He also farmed with his father and brother and lastly, worked at Target in Mason City as a maintenance manager.

Lee was an easy-going guy. He liked giving away vegetables he grew from his garden to his apartment neighbors. He will be remembered as a kind and giving person.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Dennis Schmidt of Forest City; sister, Brenda (Roger) Colson of Rockwell; nieces and nephews: Amy (Patrick) Colson, Jesse (Amy) Colson, Mark Johnson, Justin (Rachel) Johnson and Lisa (Kyle) Jutte and special friend, Brooke Meowering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vivian Schmidt.
