On August 16, 2024, at approximately 11:38 p.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to investigate a report of a crash with injury at the intersection of Wright Street and East Euclid Avenue. 911 callers reported that a motorcycle and a vehicle had collided within the intersection.

First responders arrived to find a motorcyclist in critical condition. Des Moines Fire Department medics began lifesaving efforts and transported the patient to a local hospital. Despite continued critical care, 23-year-old Altoona resident Trever Ray Vinzant died on 17 August 2024.

The preliminary police investigation, including witness statements and examination of evidence at the scene indicates the following:

• Vinzant was driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on E. Euclid Avenue.

• A 2019 Lexus SUV, driven by a 44-year-old male Des Moines resident, was driving
westbound on E. Euclid Avenue.

• The SUV began a turn to southbound Wright Street, entering the path of the motorcycle.

• The vehicles collided within the intersection.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues the technical investigation of this crash. Potential contributing factors related to the operation of both vehicles are being investigated at this time.
