Thomas Arthur Bergum left this world suddenly on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home near Seneca, Iowa. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Tom was born at Halloran Hospital in Jackson, MN, on February 3, 1954, to Arthur and Betty (Dixon) Bergum. He was joined a few minutes later (much to his chagrin and his parents’ surprise) by his twin sister Carrie.

The Bergum family farmed near Jackson, MN for several years before returning to the Seneca area in 1959, where Tom lived the rest of his life.

Tom attended grade school in Seneca and Lone Rock and graduated from Sentral in 1972.

Tom was always a hard worker. He farmed with his dad for a few years before realizing that a steady paycheck with benefits was an option. He was employed at several local companies before retiring in 2022 from GKN.

Tom enjoyed the outdoors and over the years loved trail rides, travels on his Harley, fishing trips with his cousins, bow hunting and shed antler hunting, and tending a big garden.

Tom is met in Heaven by his mom and dad, Art and Betty Bergum, and his beloved sister Audrey Gabel, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.

Tom is forever loved and missed by his life partner and soulmate Sharon Roering.

His memory will be cherished by his twin sister Carrie Bergum and her partner Robert Janzen of Minneapolis, MN, sister and brother-in-law Cathy and Jim Henry of Annandale, VA, and nieces and nephews Suzanne Abdelrazaq of South Riding, VA, her children Julia and Adam; Nicole and Alan Spencer of Hedgesville, WV; Jimmy and Andrea Henry and son Sebastian of Woodbridge, VA; David and Michelle Gabel of Indianola, IA, their son Gabriel and Misty Robinson and children Mason and Audrey; Sarah and Jeff Borengasser, Xavier, Bowen and Everly of Arcadia, OK; and Zachary Gabel of Waverly, IA.

Also surviving are Sharon’s siblings Kevin Nielsen of Armstrong and his daughter, Sonia Nielsen; Kris Nielsen and her partner Chris Kemmer of Spencer, IA; and Sharon’s children Duane and Brenda Priebe and daughter Lana, of North Branch, MN; Brian Priebe; Ashley Rambow and children Ava, Arlo and August of Alexandria, MN; Tony and Kelsey Roering and children, Renlee, Avery, and Logyn of Graceville, MN.

He is also survived by Uncle and Aunts Terry and Jane Dixon of Algona, Mary Doocy of Bancroft, Jackie Dixon of Dixon, IL, and dozens of cousins (especially his Eichenberger fishing partners), countless friends and classmates and of course his kitties whom he adored, Ben and Blossom and Sterling.

Tom’s final act of kindness and generosity was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
