OBIT: Eldon Junior Olson

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Eldon Olson passed away at the age of 85.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Eldon was born in Northwood, Iowa to James and Emma Olson. He attended school in Northwood until moving to Mason City where he graduated from Mason City High School. He joined the Navy in 1957 and was stationed in San Diego CA where he spent his service aboard the USS Epping Forest and USS Bexar where he received the good conduct medal and an honorable discharge in 1961. He began his civilian career with Water Tower Paint and Repair where he was foreman for several years before taking a job with Gamble Robinson driving truck for the next 20 years. In his retirement he worked with Service Master and most recently Hosmer Cars.

Eldon was united in marriage to Mary Lou Halfman in 1967 and to this union a daughter was born, Kimberly.

Eldon was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He competed in many fishing tournaments as well as belonging to the Clear Lake Fishing Club and Team Walleye Tournament Trail.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Bob) Ritter of Clear Lake.

Preceding him in death are his wife Mary Lou Olson; parents James and Emma Olson; step brothers Selmer Helgeland, Gilmore Helgeland; and stepsister June Quinlan.
