College Wrestling: UNI Panthers grab seventh straight dual win over Oklahoma, 30-12

UNI bounces back from loss at Oklahoma State with dominating performance over the Sooners.

NORMAN, Okla. – One night after falling short against the nation’s fifth-ranked program in Stillwater, UNI wrestling rode the Panther Train south to McCasland Fieldhouse on Saturday night and secured a 30-12 dual win over the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners.

Northern Iowa picked up six victories, all in bonus points to tie as season-high for a single dual, all while securing the program’s seventh consecutive dual win over the Sooners, the longest streak in the series which dates back to 1926. UNI’s win also included three pins, the most in a single dual this year.

Starting off the night for the Panther Train at 125 pounds, No. 30 Trever Anderson matched up against Conrad Hendriksen. Giving up two takedowns in the beginning of the match, Anderson took control in the third period with a takedown straight into a pair of back points, but ultimately came up short in a 7-6 loss.

Julian Farber brought the heat at 133 pounds facing off withJace Koelzer. Gaining a takedown in the early seconds of the first period, Farber held on to secure riding time, and added another takedown, plus a reversal for a 9-1 major decision victory. Cael Rahnavardi would come up short at 149 pounds against Willie McDougald, dropping a narrow 3-2 decision.

Eleventh-ranked Ryder Downey (157 pounds) scored big for the Panthers against #31/33 Jared Hill, after earning himself multiple back points for a 13-1 major decision win. RJ Weston followed at 165 pounds, but fell one point short in a tight bout with #28/28 Cael Carlson.

Jared Simma (174 pounds) came ready for action against #29/32 Tate Picklo, grabbing a takedown in the second period before locking into a tight cradle for a pin in four minutes, one second. The fall is Simma’s third of the season.

Looking to extend his regular season winning streak, top-ranked Parker Keckeisen (184 pounds) dominated Carson Berryhill from the start, scoring a 22-6 technical fall win in five minutes, 42 seconds, his 15 bonus-point victory of the season. Keckeisen has now won 30 consecutive regular season matches dating back to the 2022 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Wyatt Voelker kept the momentum rolling for UNI at 197 pounds, pinning Ryan Nichols in four minutes, 22 seconds to seal the dual win for the Panthers. Tyrell Gordon would close the night out for Northern Iowa, coming up just short for a second straight night in overtime, falling to #11/15 Josh Heindselman in sudden victory, 4-1.

UP NEXT
The Panthers return home next Sunday, Feb. 4 to host No. 20 West Virginia inside the McLeod Center. Competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT with live coverage available on FloWrestling and CFU Channel 15. UNI will also be celebrating Military Appreciation Day with complimentary tickets to all military members who present their military IDs at the box office.
