Mitt Romney is appalled Trump ordered Republicans in Congress not to solve border crisis to smear Joe Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Republicans in Congress are making it clear they will not pass legislation on their desks offered by Joe Biden to solve the border crisis because Donald Trump wants to smear the president, and Mitt Romney is having none of it.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republicans in Congress are making it clear they will not pass legislation on their desks offered by Joe Biden to solve the border crisis because Donald Trump wants to smear the president, and Mitt Romney is having none of it.

Mitt Romney is the Republican Senator from Utah who has stood up to Donald Trump previously, and ran for President himself, losing in 2012. He voted to convict Trump in an impeachment trial back in 2020.  He recognizes the Southern border between the U.S. and Mexico is a trouble spot that needs addressing immediately, just as it has been for many years.  It is a common playground for politicians looking to make headlines, and this election season is no different.

What is sad for America is that Democrats and President Joe Biden have advanced bills to Congress that could mitigate or even solve the border crisis.  The bills are sitting in place, not advancing, because MAGA Republicans in the House of Representatives refuse to “give Joe Biden a win” potentially because they have few or no other issues to pummel the President on.  Since Mitt Romney is not seeking re-election in 2024, his muzzle is off and is speaking truth on national TV, looking to actually do something to make Americans safer.

“I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump,” Romney said today to a gaggle of reporters.  “And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn’t want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is is really appalling.”

Some Republicans have opening admitted they will not advance any legislation to address the border crisis.  And Donald Trump appears to be giving them the order to shut down any bill that might help.

“But the reality is that, that we have a crisis at the border, the American people are suffering as a result of what’s happening at the border,” Romney continued. “And someone running for president not to try and get the problem solved, as opposed to saying, hey, save that problem. Don’t solve it. Let me take credit for solving it later.”

A border bill has bipartisan support in the Senate, but House Republicans will not pass it, because of Trump and far-right wingers who are loyal to him.  According to USA Today, “In an interview with House Speaker Mike Johnson Wednesday night, Fox News host Laura Ingraham said Trump told her he was against the deal, that he’d urged (Speaker of the House Mike Johnson) to reject it, and that he was ‘extremely adamant’ about it.
