M. Arlene Kammrad, 92, of Mason City, passed away, Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Country Meadow Place. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at 1 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

M. Arlene Kammrad, 92, of Mason City, passed away, Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Country Meadow Place.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at 1 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania, with Rev. Melanie Greengo officiating.

Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to service time on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Arlene Kammrad.

Margaret Arlene (Merfeld) Kammrad was born on July 28, 1931, in Marble Rock, Iowa to parents John and Margaret (Hammel) Merfeld. In her early years, the family moved to Chapin, where she graduated from Chapin High School. On October 23, 1949, Arlene was united in marriage to Gordon Kammrad at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple were wed for 74 years and were blessed with two children, Michael and Sue. Gordon and Arlene moved to Mason City in 1995.

Arlene was employed at several places throughout her life, but most notably, she was a bus driver for the Sheffield School District for 15 years, and at Newman Catholic School for 4 years until her retirement. Arlene was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City and loved attending Coffee Club in Sheffield. Arlene enjoyed crafting and spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her famous “Santa cookies” during the holiday season. Arlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be deeply missed by those who knew her and loved her.

Arlene is survived by her husband of 74 years, Gordon Kammrad; children, Mike (Cheri) Kammrad and Sue (Tom) Barnes; her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret; and siblings, Ruth Pinneke, Dale Merfeld, Kenneth Merfeld, Claude Merfeld, and Lyle Merfeld.
