Larry D. Gentz, 72 of Northwood passed away peacefully Saturday, December 16, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City, surrounded by family.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023 at First Lutheran Church, 309 9th St N, Northwood, IA with Rev. Becky Sogge officiating. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family suggests memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church or the Northwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Larry Dean was born April 14, 1951 in Mason City, IA the son of Raymond C. and Dorothy A. (Schmidt) Gentz. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Larry attended and received his education in Northwood and later at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, IA. He was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Grell on March 27, 1976 at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. To this union, a son was born, Tony. Before retiring, Larry worked as an Engineer Manager at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. Over the years he also dedicated his time to the family farm east of Northwood with his brothers.
Larry cherished time spent with his wife, son, and two granddaughters, Alexia and Casey. He enjoyed time outdoors whether it was on the golf course, camping or fishing. Days spent working the land and time on the farm alongside his brothers were very important. Most of all, holiday breakfasts and Labor Day family gatherings were crucial. Larry looked forward to a full house of laughter and joy. He had a heart of gold and was never afraid to express his love.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 47 years, Kathleen; son, Tony of Northwood; granddaughters, Alexia and Casey Gentz, both of Northwood; brothers, Ronald (Kathleen) Gentz and David (Cheryl) Gentz, all of Northwood; brothers-in-law, Jim Grell, Rick (Kay) Grell and Randy (Connie) Grell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; mother, Dorothy; sister, Karen; and brothers, Kenneth and Brian.
