Audrey J. Gruver, 94 of Mason City and formerly of Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center with family at her side.

A service to honor her life will be held at a later date.

Audrey Jean was born December 7, 1929 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Arthur W. and Myrtle M. (Wall) Olson. Growing up in the area, Audrey attended Roosevelt High School and later continued her education at Jr. College. For many years she worked for Hills Bro Coffee as a secretary. Audrey met Duane I. Gruver and the rest is history. The couple was married September 24, 1949 and were blessed with three children: Douglas, David and Barb.
In the gallery of life, Audrey’s canvas was painted with strokes of love, faith, and boundless generosity. An artist at heart, she found joy in painting and in the flourishing garden she nurtured. She was known for her love of raspberries and her raspberry patch, sharing them with friends and neighbors. Her love for vibrant colors extended to the spirited gatherings with the Red Hat Ladies, creating a kaleidoscope of laughter and cherished moments.

Faith was the cornerstone of Audrey’s life, reflected in her dedicated involvement at Oxboro Evangelical Church and multiple Bible studies. Her deep conversations about faith were filled with connection and spiritual growth. Her artistry extended beyond the creative realm, as she generously volunteered in the community, turning strangers into friends with her warmth. Audrey’s unique gift of seeing the best in others drew people together like a well-composed masterpiece. Above all, Audrey’s heart overflowed with love for her family. Her home was a haven of warmth, filled with laughter and the aroma of freshly baked goodies. She ensured no one left empty-handed, showering them with gifts and treats—a tangible expression of her boundless affection. Her greatest joys in life were being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Those surviving are her husband of 74 years, Duane; children, Douglas (Ruth) Gruver of Roseville, MN, David (Cindy) Gruver of Farmington, MN, and Barb (John “Cody”) Wohnoutka of Clear Lake, IA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceding her in death are her parents, a sister, Betty Spofford and a brother, WIlliam “Bill” Olson.
