College Football: Iowa State faces Kansas State in season finale Saturday

MANHATTAN, KANSAS - Iowa State closes the 2023 regular season with a showdown at No. 19/20 Kansas State in Matt Campbellā€™s 100th game as head coach of the Cyclones. He joins Dan McCarney as the only Cyclone leaders to coach in 100 games. The game is at 7 PM and will be televised on FOX.

The Cyclones face K-State for the 107th time, Iowa Stateā€™s most played series … the series dates back to 1917 and has been played every year since … it is the eighth-longest uninterrupted active series in FBS college football.

ISU has won three of the last five meetings in the series, including a 33-20 win in Manhattan in 2021 … the Cyclonesā€™ last six losses in the series have been by an average of just 4.0 points, while its last three wins have been by an average of 20.7 points.

Matt Campbell is the first Cyclone coach to beat K-State three times since Jim Walden beat the Wildcats four times from 1987-94.

Jake Waters, a offensive senior quality control analyst for Iowa State, played QB at K-State in 2012 and 2013 after transferring from Iowa Western CC … the Council Bluffs, Iowa, native earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors as a senior, leading the Wildcats to a 9-4 record.

Iowa State has reached bowl eligibility in six of the last seven season … prior to Campbell leading the program, ISU had made 12 bowl games in 124 seasons.
