WRIGHT COUNTY - A Northern Iowa man is dead after he attempted to flee a pursuing deputy at 130 miles per hour and failing to negotiate a curve in the road.

WRIGHT COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man is dead after he attempted to flee a pursuing deputy at 130 miles per hour and failing to negotiate a curve in the road.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place early Sunday morning, November 19, 2023. At 12:30 AM, 36-year-old Jose Casiano of Webster City was driving erratically on Iowa Highway 17 in Eagle Grove. A Wright county deputy attempted to stop Casiano in his 2012 Mercedes GL4, but Casiano fled at 130 miles per hour, the Patrol says. Casiano, who was not wearing a seatbelt, failed to negotiate a curve and went into a ditch and was ejected from the Mercedes.

As a result, Casiano was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eagle Grove emergency responders assisted the Patrol.
