CLERMONT, IOWA – When stumbling home from a night of drinking, one must resist the urge to bribe police or face stiff consequences.

Police say that on September 3, 2023, at approximately 12:15 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious male stumbling on Highway 18 just outside of Clermont, Iowa.  Fayette County deputies responded to the area and located the male subject, Adam Robert Guenther, 39 of Elgin, Iowa.

Through the investigation process, Guenther was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.  Guenther was additionally charged with Bribery, a class D Felony, for offering a large amount of money to a deputy to release him.

Guenther was transported to Fayette County Jail, where he was held until initial appearance.
