Gerald Theodore Meyer, 80, of Rockford, IA, passed away July 28, 2023, at his home in Rockford.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 PM, Saturday August 5, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, 21 3rd St NW, Rockford, IA 50468 with Dave Hill officiating.

Gerald was born March 15, 1943, in Latimer, IA; son of Theodore and Lucille (Thies) Meyer. He graduated from Latimer Parochial School. Gerald was a confirmed member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer. He met Janice Dirksen at a skating rink in Clear Lake, IA. He was bound and determined to ask her on a date. Lucky for him, she agreed and they were united in marriage December 20, 1963. Over the years, Gerald worked a number of jobs as a farmer, mechanic, and construction for the Avenue of the Saints. He enjoyed doing any type of work he could do with his own two hands.

Gerald loved working more than any other pastime. He always had to be working or tinkering with something or another. He took pride in his home and most recently finished remodeling all but the front porch of the family home. He thought buying wood for the repairs was nonsense. He’d much rather find trees he was happy with and process them for the work himself. When his health began to decline; his work slowed. During that time he still kept up with the farming world via Youtube.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Steven Meyer of Goodyear, AZ and Robin (Michael Godfrey) Meyer of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas (Cheyenne) Meyer, Christopher Meyer, Kortney Meyer, Anna Godfrey, Mia Godfrey, Madelynne Meyer-Elizardo, and Edna Meyer-Elizardo; great-grandchildren, Lincoln Meyer and Atlas Meyer; brother, Tim (Doris) Meyer; sisters, Sylvia (Roland) Massow and Cynthia (Gary) Sevde; brothers-in-law, George Dirksen and Dennis (Rosie) Dirksen; sister-in-law, Lisa Dirksen; beloved cat, Beethoven, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Lucille; infant nephew; brothers-in-law, Larry (Ruth) Dirksen and Allen Dirksen.
