Richard James McIntire the adopted son of L.E. “Jim” and Agnes (Opsal) McIntire was born August 1, 1953 in Denver, Colorado. He died on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 69.
He received his education and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1972. After graduation, he attended Mankato State University briefly before enlisting into the military, serving in the US Army for 14 years.
On June 4, 1977, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Jorgensen. Together they had two daughters, his oldest, Nicole (McIntire) Ricke and his youngest, Amanda McIntire.
After serving for 14 years, Richard, JoAnn and the girls moved back to Iowa where Richard owned and operated “McIntire Service Station” in Ringsted, Iowa for several years before working in various manufacturing settings and retiring from work life.
Richard enjoyed many activities. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, collecting nutcrackers, playing games on the computer, singing, and watching cartoons. He also had a big heart for all animals. He especially had a soft spot for his cats.
Left to cherish Richard’s memory are his wife of 45 years, JoAnn (Jorgensen) McIntire, a sister, Elizabeth Helgason, daughters, Nicole (Timothy) Ricke and Amanda McIntire. Three granddaughters and two great grandchildren; Madilynn “Peanut” (Kaleb) Eldridge, Samantha “Turkey” (William) Hanselman, Katherine “Bug” McIntire, Layla Eldridge and Sebastian Hanselman.
Richard has been preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dwayne; sister, Ann Kollash; and great grandson, Oliver Hanselman.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
