Texting while driving is a dangerous national epidemic

PALO ALTO COUNTY – A North Iowa teen who was texting while driving was injured as he totaled his pickup and damaged a bridge.

On Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, at 2:51 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 5700 block of 500th Street in Palo Alto County. Following the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that a 16 year old male was driving a 2010 Ford Expedition westbound in the 5700 block of 500th Street. Due to driver inattentiveness to the roadway, the Expedition colided with a steel bridge approach and came to rest on the roadway. The Expedition was deemed a total loss in the accident and the damage to the bridge was estimated at $1,500.00. The driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Following the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited the 16-year-old male driver with using an electronic communications device with a restricted license, which is a simple misdemeanor.
