OBIT: Loren Benjamin Bishop

Loren Benjamin Bishop, 95, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA.

Family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date. Inurnment will then take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA.

Loren was born on July 7, 1925, the son of Roy and Myrtle (Terrill) Bishop of Woodburn, IA. After graduating High School he joined the Navy to help protect the United States during WWII in the South Pacific, until his honorable discharge in 1946. On August 10, 1946, Loren married Luella Jenkins in Hiawatha, KS. From this union four children were born. Loren spent 31 years of his life as a Conservation Technician for the USDA.

When he wasn’t working, he loved fishing and pheasant hunting. Loren liked taking fishing trips to Canada with friends and yearly family fishing trips in Minnesota. Traveling to Arizona and Texas with friends and camping adventures with his relatives are fond memories. His children surprised him and Luella with the gift of their first airplane trip ever to California. Loren was an active member of the Odd Fellows, American Legion, and the National Association of Federal Employees (NARFE).

Those left to cherish memories of Loren are his children, Linda (Ronald) Hughes, Lana Sue (Richard) Hanson, Mark (Debra) Bishop, and Marty (Dung) Bishop; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Weaklend; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Loren was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Luella; his parents; siblings Eva Mongar, Ruby Squiers, Raymond and Orville Bishop; as well as three brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws.
