ISTANBUL, TURKEY – Dozens of people were killed or injured in a terrorist attack at a Turkish nightclub over the New Year holiday.
At least 39 people were killed and 69 injured in the attack, which took place at a night club in Istanbul, Turkey.
The United States strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
“We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and to the people of Turkey, as well as our hopes for the quick recovery for the wounded,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson said. “We will remain in close touch with Turkish authorities throughout the investigation.”
The UN Security Council also denounced the terrorist attack.
“The horrific attack which killed and injured dozens of innocent revelers is a despicable and an unjustifiable act regardless of the motivation,” a United Nations spokesperson said.
The U.S. says it will stand in solidarity with Turkey, its NATO Ally, “in combating the ongoing threat of terrorism.
“Sadly, this heinous attack is only the latest effort to kill and maim innocent civilians. These attacks only reinforce our strong determination to work with the Government of Turkey to counter the scourge of terrorism.”
