NIACC’s Van Vliet earns ICCAC player of week honor

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Boy Van Vliet has been selected as the ICCAC men’s basketball player of the week for Jan. 4-10.

Van Vliet, who is from the Netherlands, averaged 22.6 points per game in three wins last week for the Trojans.

Van Vliet scored 24 points with 6 rebounds and 9 assists against Saint Mary’s University-Winona JV (1-4-16). He scored 16 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists against DCTC and scored 28 points with 9 rebounds, 7 assists against Iowa Central.

Van Vliet averages 16.6 points per game, which ranks fourth in the conference, with 28 3-point goals. Van Vliet has 70 assists and 30 steals.

Van Vliet has 145 career assists, which ranks 32nd on the school’s all-time list.

Van Vliet is the first player to win the ICCAC player of the week since Al Davis won the award for the week of Feb. 16-22, 2015. Davis won the award three times last season.

NIACC (12-4 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at No. 11 Southwestern (15-3, 1-0).
