IOWA CITY – Law enforcement did not take kindly to posts made to social media by an Iowa man who claimed he was plotting to “shoot every white cop” he sees.
According to a police arrest report released today by Iowa City police, 30-year-old Michael L. McCullum is now in the Johnson County Jail, arrested on a charge of aggravated misdemeanor first-degree harassment.
The trouble for McCullum started when police were notified that he allegedly wrote to a Facebook page on May 1 under a different name “I’ve thought about shooting every white cop I see in the head until I’m either caught by the police or killed by them. Ha!!!! I think I can pull it off. Might kill at least fifteen tomorrow. I’m plotting now.”
McCullum is being held on $100,000 cash-only bond at this time.
Court records show McCullum has two drunk driving convictions and a number of other driving while barred citations. He owes Iowa courts thousands of dollars in unpaid fines and court fees.

What makes these abridgments to free speech ridiculous, and entirely worthy of a Supreme Court challenge, is the capacitance in which some threats are considered feasible, and others preposterous, (which of course is the defensive footing needed to topple these charges). Had he said he was going to use nuclear warheads to kill all cops would the threat been taken seriously?
This is a “Classic case of Hate Speech” and yes Hate Speech is a CRIME! It’s no different than a Neo-Nazi calling for the death of Jews or “Black People”. Dude shouldn’t get arrested for posting words. Sure, he is an idiot and all but I don’t see how arresting somebody for posting their thoughts is legal.
This just shows how far away from the constitution and bill of rights that we are getting.
