MASON CITY – The North Iowa Corridor, funded with tax dollars from Mason City, Clear Lake, and Cerro Gordo county, has hired the wife of a Cerro Gordo County Supervisor.

The county has annually contributed up to $50,000 a year to the North Iowa Corridor. The funding is approved by the board of supervisors. The public-private agency claims to pursue jobs and industry within the Cerro Gordo county area.

According to sources, which include the Corridor’s website, the agency has now hired the wife of Cerro Gordo Supervisor Casey Callanan – Hunter Callanan.

According to NorthIowaCorridor.com:

Hunter Callanan is the Communications & Workforce Specialist for North Iowa Corridor. She leads the organization’s efforts in marketing, communications, and workforce development initiatives to help our community to attract and retain jobs and a talented workforce for the region.

She is also responsible for the development and management of the marketing strategy to promote development initiatives, resources, and projects, and serves as the communications manager for the organization’s activities and marketing for all media formats. Coordination with other agencies and partners on workforce development issues and the creation of a workforce retention and expansion program are a primary focus.

Hunter was born and raised in Mason City. She is a graduate of Loras College with a degree in Public Relations. She spent 10 years in marketing at CL Tel and most recently worked for North Iowa Area Community College on a State of Iowa grant that connects students, educators, and business through relevant, work-based learning activities. Hunter is passionate about shaping our future workforce to the needs of our region, as well promoting our regions assets to those near and far.

  1. It’s like the Mafia when it comes to public servant jobs – YOU HAVE TO BE CONNECTED (made) HAPPY EASTER !

  2. Shit im more worried about this Dana Nauman lady that sent out all of the new assessments, It sucks as our tax money is being wasted. I haven’t done any remodeling to my property in the past 10 years so why the increase. CROOKS CROOKS

    1. We agree with you here!!!
Figured ours was over 17% increase.
But this is how the Supervisors do it. They claim they HOLD THE TAXES, but this is how they get the extra money!!

  3. And we thought there was some hope in younger fresh blood in this young man!
Sounds like he’s part of the good old boy system in such a short time.

  4. Let’s see
Jay walks into houses while campaigning–deferred to a different County and gets off.
Bodeker gets OWI–deferred to a different County & gets off
Urdahl’s wife gets job at NIACOG with ties to the County.
Callanan just gets elected and his wife gets job with
North Iowa Corridor-NIC–funded partially by the County he represents?
I’m sure the list could be longer.

    1. That’s a real concise, accurate account of things as they stand. Good job of showing your level of knowledge.

  5. Possible nepotism aside, Hunter Callanan is definitely qualified for that position as Communications & Workforce Specialist.

She has a degree in Public Relations from Loras College and has worked in Marketing for 10 years.
At least she has the “chops” for the job as opposed to some others.

The term for it now is “networking” and it is also very prevalent in the private sector as well.

    1. Good point. If she’s qualified and actually helps bring jobs that pay above the poverty level to MC, hats off to her.

      1. I hope you’re right. That she is a positive for the corridor. Because, have they really done anything at all in the last few years? I can’t recall anything for Mason City.

      2. Wouldn’t a real journalist pursue this additional information regarding her qualifications on their own, rather than writing a headline that eludes to something shady going on? This is the manufactured scandals here at NIT I’m referring to. Nothing more than gossip to drum up clicks.

  6. Big question here fellow readers–just suppose this was someone that used to sit on the council.
Now you suppose the Globe would have been all over that??
Another point on how “the protected” play nice with each other.
I personally think it should be on Sunday’s front page.
    Any betters

  7. The name says it all! Morals & values seem to take the back seat when it comes to these three Supervisors.
Oh, and didn’t Jay get his wife a job with NIACOG ??

  8. Nothing like some good old political pay back going on here.No wonder everyone thinks Mason City and north iowa is a joke.

  9. It looks as if this lady has a big responsibility, I’m sure that with government transparency we’ll be able to keep an eye on her accomplishments.

  10. If you look at the city and county payrolls, many ,many familys have more than one person sucking up taxpayers donations
