NIACC women host Southeastern in regional semifinals Thursday

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The No. 5 NIACC women’s basketbll team is two wins away from returning to the NJCAA Division II national tournament.

Second-seed NIACC (24-5) hosts third-seed Southeastern (21-10) Thursday in the NJCAA Region XI semifinals. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the NIACC gym.

NIACC stopped Southeastern twice during the regular season. The Lady Trojans won 83-69 in Mason City and 84-66 in Keokuk.

No. 6 Kirkwood, the tournament’s top seed, hosts fifth-seed Iowa Central in the other regional semifinal on Thursday.

NIACC notes: Logan Anderson has 480 points in her freshman season (11th on school’s single-season list) … Lentz has 77 three-point goals in her freshman season (10th on school’s career three-point list).

NIACC’s statistical leaders: Scoring – Ford-Washington 21.8 ppg., Anderson 16.6 ppg., Savannah Lentz 9.8 ppg. Rebounds – Ford-Washington 5.9 rpg., Diamond Miller 5.7 rpg., Anna Eckert 5.0 rpg. Assists – Ford-Washington 99, Anderson 67, Ashleigh Onaca 52. Steals – Ford-Washington 79, Anderson 47, Onaca 46. 3-point goals – Savannah Lentz 77, Anderson 64, Trudy Peterson 37.
