NIACC women’s basketball team ranked 8th; track teams ranked in top 2

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team moved up a spot to eighth in this week’s NJCAA Division II poll.
The Lady Trojans (15-4 overall, 4-1 in the ICCAC) topped Iowa Lakes, Ellsworth and the William Penn junior varsity last week.
It’s the 19th consecutive poll that the NIACC women have been ranked in the top 10. This season, the Lady Trojans have been ranked as high as No. 2 as they spent three weeks in that spot in December.
Ranked ahead of NIACC in this week’s poll are (in order) Johnson County CC (21-0), Parkland College (19-1), Owens CC (20-1), Kirkwood (17-4), Illinois Central (21-2), Monroe CC (16-1) and Kansas City (Kansas) CC (19-2).
NIACC, which has won five straight games, return to action Wednesday night at Southwestern in an ICCAC contest.

Meanwhile, the NIACC women’s indoor track and field team is ranked 14th Wednesday in the initial NJCAA poll compiled by the USTFCCA.
The NIACC men’s indoor team is ranked 17th.
Iowa Central is No. 1 in both the women’s and men’s rankings. The Iowa Western women are ranked fourth and the Iowa Western men are ranked sixth.

The NIACC women’s and men’s teams return to action Friday at the Jack Jennett Invitational at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on the Northern Iowa campus.
