MASON CITY – Darshini Jayawardena of Mason City has been named the new Director for the Lifelong Learning Institute at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). She replaces Susan Nagle who retired in December 2014.

Jayawardena has been involved at NIACC for several years as a member of the NIACC Foundation Board. She has also served on the Mason City Board of Education since 2008, and on the AEA267 Board since 2010.

The NIACC Lifelong Learning Institute is a community of adults who learn for the joy of learning without grades, tests, papers or long-term classes. The Institute serves people of all educational backgrounds and provides the perfect way to expand knowledge while meeting other like-minded adults. Members can enjoy short courses, lectures and discussions, study circles, social events, civic engagement opportunities and several member benefits.

“The Lifelong Learning Institute is a wonderful opportunity for adults of all ages who want to continue to learn college-level subjects without the pressure of grades or exams,” Jayawardena said. “I’m very excited to be involved with such an inspiring group of people.”

Membership and registration in the Institute requires a yearly fee of $99 which allows a member to register for any or all classes for the fall and the spring semester without additional tuition.
