NIACC’s Terrell accepts Grand View women’s assistant position

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – Kelli Terrell has stepped down as the NIACC women’s basketball coach after three seasons.

Terrell, who guided the Lady Trojans to a third-place finish at the NJCAA Division II tournament in March, will be an assistant women’s basketball coach at Grand View University.

Terrell, who took over for John Oertel in the 2011-12 season, was 64-35 in her three seasons as coach at NIACC. The Lady Trojans were 12-19 in the 2011-12 season, 18-13 in the 2012-13 season and 34-3 in the 2013-14 season.

Terrell was the fifth women’s basketball coach at NIACC since the school started the program in the 1973-74 season.

NIACC returns five players from last year’s team that played in the national tournament for the first time in 20 years. Returning for the Lady Trojans will be Alexis Boyd-Lockett, Sierra Ford-Washington, Ashleigh Onaca, A’Chieyah Sanders and Diamond Miller.
