Track: Cyclones notch 12 PR’s at Stanford Invite & Tiger Classic

AMES, Iowa – Members of the Iowa State track and field team put on career performances at both the Stanford Invitational and Tiger Track Classic Friday. In total, 12 student-athletes notched personal records in their respective events.

Redshirt-freshman Taylor McDowell got things rolling for the Cyclones in the women’s 5,000-meter run. McDowell posted a personal-best of 17.02.26 in the event. The Hartland, Wis., native bested her previous mark of 17:25.09 by over 20 seconds with the performance.

In the women’s 1,500-meter run, five student-athletes notched personal records in Maggie Gannon, Perez Rotich, Colleen Riley, Maryn Lowry and Madison Nagle. Gannon was the top overall finisher for the Cyclones, crossing the line in 4:24.71. The Burlington, Ill., native’s performance was just 0.55 seconds off of cracking Iowa State’s all-time top-10 list in the event.

The women’s 5,000-meter run featured a trio of Cyclone distance runners in Samantha Bluske, Katy Moen andBethanie Brown. All three notched personal bests, competing in heat two of the event. Moen took second in the race, notching a PR of over 25 seconds and crossing the line in 15:56.53. The performance moves her into fifth in program history in the event. Brown moved into seventh in ISU 5,000m history, running a time of 16:09.17. Clocking in at 16:19.18, Samantha Bluske held her ninth-place slot on the all-time list and passed Bonnie Sons (16:21.50) with the showing.

Mohamed Hrezi was Iowa State’s lone competitor from the men’s team at the Stanford Invitational, running the 10,000-meter run. Entering the race, Hrezi sat in 10th place on the all-time program list. The Naugatuck, Conn., native moved up to sixth on the list with a personal best of 28:51.88 in the event. Hrezi placed 19th in his heat.
