Over $100,000 in meth stopped at Texas border

Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge intercepted an alleged load of methamphetamine. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $105,600, hidden under the clothing of a pedestrian.

“This alleged would-be-smuggler attempted to bring two packages into the country under her clothing. I congratulate our officers for their commitment to keeping these dangerous drugs out of the country,” said Michael T. Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville.

On Wednesday, February 19, CBP officers working at the primary inspection booth at Gateway International Bridge pedestrian walkway encountered a 59-year-old woman as she attempted to enter the country. A CBP officer’s primary examination resulted in the woman, identified as a citizen of Mexico who resides in Elsa, Texas being referred to CBP secondary for further examination. While in secondary, CBP officers discovered two packages hidden under the woman’s clothing. CBP officers removed the packages which held a combined total weight of 3.3 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.

The alleged load of methamphetamine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $105,600. CBP officers turned the woman over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics from this enforcement action.
