AMES, Iowa – Dustin Hogue posted career highs in points (22) and rebounds (16) to help No. 17 Iowa State (6-0) defeat Auburn (4-2), 99-70 Monday night in the Big 12-SEC Challenge in Hilton Coliseum.
Hogue missed just two of his 10 shot attempts en route to ISU’s first 20-point/15-rebound performance since Melvin Ejim had 20 points and 16 rebounds at Texas last season. It was Hogue’s second double-double of the year.
Ejim chipped in with his 23rd career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, as the Cyclones remain unbeaten and begin a season 6-0 for the second time in the Fred Hoiberg era and the 12th time in school history.
After starting the game 0-for-8 from downtown, the Cyclones made 13-of-27 from distance the rest of the way to record their fourth double-digit 3-pointer made performance of the season and the 51st in the four-year Fred Hoiberg era.
ISU led by as many as 35 points in the second half.
The Cyclones were down 12-5 in the early going, missing 12 of their first 15 shots. But Hogue quickly sparked the Cyclones with nine points in a 27-5 run to give ISU a 32-17 lead with six minutes left in the opening period.
Hogue had a double-double in the first half with 16 points and 12 boards, as the Cyclones led by as many as 22 points in the first stanza.
