MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was arrested on March 30th, 2013 after police responded to a report of a domestic situation at 621 South President Ave. has been found guilty of felony burglary and aggravated misdemeanor domestic assault.
NIT reported at the time that officers arrived on the scene at 3:21 AM on March 30th and began to investigate. Police said that they learned that Joseph Latham, age 33, had fled after forcing his way into the house and assaulting a resident inside. The victim was able to identify Latham and after a brief search, he was located and arrested.
Latham plead guilty Tuesday to felony C second degree burglary and aggravated misdemeanor domestic abuse (second offense). Latham was sentenced to serve time in a residential facility for the burglary charge until “maximum benefit is achieved,” a suspended fine of $750.00, a suspended ten year prison sentence, and five years of probation. Latham served seven days in jail for the domestic assault charge. He must pay a total $830.25 in court costs and fines.
Latham’s troubles are not over, however. He faces a felony D second-degree theft charge brought by the Mason City Police Department on September 9th. A jury trial will be held on December 1oth.
