IOWA CITY – Iowa dropped another Big Ten contest Saturday, losing 28-9 to Wisconsin at Kinnick Stadium.
The Hawkeyes (5-4, 2-3 Big Ten) hung tough for most of the game until mistakes caught up with them.
“It was an outstanding football game from our perspective for at least 50 minutes. But we couldn’t finish the game,” said Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.
A late interception by Wisconsin lead to a score that put the game away for the Badgers, who improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Wisconsin coach Gary Anderson said it was a great game, and the Iowa turnovers were a key.
“The turnovers were huge for us,” he said.
A key stretch was in the third quarter when Iowa quarterback Jake Rudock left the game after being hit while throwing a pass, which was then intercepted. Wisconsin scored on the next play, putting them ahead 14-9. Wisconsin scored two more touchdowns to end the game.
Iowa plays Purdue next week.
