Iowa State takes down Augustana, 90-68

AMES, Iowa – DeAndre Kane finished with a 19 point-10 rebound double-double and Matt Thomas added 16 points as Iowa State rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to defeat Augustana (S.D.), 90-68, in exhibition action Sunday evening at Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State opened the second half on a 14-3 run and ended up outscoring the Vikings, 54-29, in the frame. Holding a five-point edge at 53-48, ISU went on a 21-0 run to break open the game for good with 8:55 remaining.

The Cyclones, who didn’t have their first assist until 3:46 left in the first half, had 14 assists in the second half and outrebounded Augustana, 27-17, in the second frame as well.

 

DeAndre Kane was the most consistent player for the Cyclones, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. It truly was a team effort once the Cyclones got it going though, with four Cyclones finishing in double figures. Kane’s ability to rebound proved vital in the first half as he grabbed seven boards in the opening stanza.

In his first action at Hilton Coliseum, Matt Thomas finished with 16 points, with 12 of them coming in the second half. Georges Niang had 10 points and added six assists in the winning effort.
