MITCHELVILLE, IOWA – Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds will speak at a ribbon-cutting event at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women on Monday morning, October 28th.
A renovation and expansion project at the facility is nearly complete. The medium/minimum security prison has been expanded to hold about 890 inmates. The old design had a capacity of 465 inmates but held nearly 580, documents on iowa.gov indicated.
The project cost about $68 million, the Des Moines Register reported. Inmates will start moving into the new housing units later this year. Soon after, the facility will become the central reception center for all women entering Iowa’s prison system.

Good. I hope they have rehab and work facilities included.
