MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday with a 4-1 nonconference victory over Minnesota International University at the NIACC soccer field.
NIACC (1-2 overall) trailed 1-0 but scored four straight goals, including two in a 1:20 stretch late in the first half. Freshman Roy Murillo (Nashville, Tenn.) tied the contest at 1-1 with 4:15 remaining in the first half and freshman Luis Carvalho (Chattanooga, Tenn.) scored a goal with 2:55 remaining in the half to put the Trojans in front 2-1.
Sophomore Nako Omot (Worthington, Minn.) scored two goals in the second half as NIACC pushed its lead to 4-1.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at Iowa Lakes in Estherville in the Trojans’ ICCAC opener. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
