Iowa State volleyball sets new season tickets record

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – The Iowa State fan bases have been coming out to support the Cyclones in record numbers across multiple sports. Today, we are proud to announce that the Iowa State volleyball program has broken its season tickets sold record with 1,300 spots sold for the 2013 home season, which begins tomorrow against No. 14 San Diego at 6:30 p.m.

“I cannot thank Cyclone fans enough for their support of our volleyball team,” head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “To see the growth in our fan base over the past several years has been one of the most special things I’ve experienced in my time here. We have a major home-court advantage now that didn’t exist eight years ago. Recruits see Hilton Magic and they want to be a part of it. Our fans are a huge part of our success, and we are excited to continue our mission to compete for a Big 12 and NCAA Championship in front of the best fans in the country.”

The previous record for Hilton Coliseum came last season when 1,074 Iowa State fans pledged their support for the season. In 2010 after the flood that affected Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State sold 1,200 season tickets that guaranteed fans admission to the 2,000 seat Ames High School gym where the Cyclones played the majority of their matches.

“The loyal support of Cyclone fans continues to amaze,” Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “Coach Johnson-Lynch, her staff and players have built a nationally recognized volleyball program and the Iowa State fan base has responded to that success. Our match atmosphere in Hilton Coliseum is among the best in the nation and that’s because of a great team supported by an enthusiastic fan base.”

The growth in season tickets for volleyball has been staggering. The 2007 season saw 37 just fans take advantage of the opportunity to get season tickets. Even after reaching its first Regional Semifinal in 2007, the season ticket total only went up to 114 for the 2008 campaign.
