Federal Grand Jury Returns 30-Count Indictment Related to Boston Marathon Explosions and Murder of MIT Police Officer Sean Collier

Concord, NH – Last week, recently featured “Fugitive of the Week,” Michael Saulnier, 27, surrendered to the Rockingham County Jail. Saulnier was last known to reside in Derry, NH, but investigators had learned that he had fled the area to Florida.

Saulnier was being sought on an outstanding arrest warrant for probation violations stemming from his original conviction and sentence for second degree assault. This warrant was issued on April 23, 2013 by the Hillsborough County Superior Court. Both the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and NH Probation and Parole requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals in an effort to locate and arrest Saulnier.

As part of this investigation, Saulnier was aired as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force’s weekly feature known as the “Fugitive of the Week” on June 20, 2013. The “Fugitive of the Week” is broadcast on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, the Union Leader, the Nashua Telegraph and is prominently featured on the internet.

After Saulnier was featured as the “Fugitive of the Week,” family and friends contacted Saulnier in Florida and urged him to return to NH and surrender. This process took a few days, but Saulnier did return to NH on Monday and turned himself in to authorities at the Rockingham County Jail last night. Saulnier is currently being held in custody until his initial court appearance in Hillsborough County sometime today.

Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 5,370 arrests. These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 7 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
